My name is Sudhershi Kularatnam and I am in my third year of Speech Communication at UW. I enjoy communications, volunteering, joining clubs, student leadership and the Arts. I also enjoy concerts, soccer, cricket, drama, diversity, Twitter, Facebook, piercings, photography and more recently, giving out hugs and high fives! :)
As your Arts Student Councillor I will be informed, responsible, reliable and most importantly I will listen to you as I will be representing US. I will be a strong voice for the best Faculty at UW!
As Student Councillor my roles would include:
- Being 1 in 5 Arts representatives on the Federation of Students.
- Being a voting member of the council.
- Being a voice for Arts students.
- Attending council meetings and giving reports and participate in decision making.
- Conversing with and collecting feedback on issues which come up at these meetings.
- Offering comments, recommendations and suggestions in these meeting which reflect the needs of Arts students.
- Overseeing the executive in the performance of their job.
Being a liaison with the societies.
My ideas include:
- Introducing healthier choices at the cafeterias and the ASU tuck shop including vegetarian food and hardier foods.
- Keeping Arts students up to date with reports in the Imprint which inform you of what you missed at the council meetings so there are no issues left in the dark
- Collecting students’ perspectives and opinions on issues affecting them and bring these to discussion at meetings.
- Meeting with clubs and societies to get feedback on the needs of specific groups within the Arts faculty.
- Getting more entertainment that you want to see since after all we are Arts! (More singers, bands, actors, poets and guest speakers.)
My experience includes:
- Arts Student Union Student Director> Events Planning and Advertising Committee.
- Mayor's Action Team Student Leader> Developed Afterschool Program at Waterloo Collegiate for immigrant youth.
- Arts Orientation Week Leader> Facilitated activities for hundreds of new first years.
