Stephen KrysakI am running for the Environment seat on Senate because I am eager for a chance to represent the current and future students of the Faculty of Environment at this level. Over the last 6 months I have represented the students of my program at the Undergraduate Studies Committee and Faculty Council. This has given me the opportunity to raise concerns felt by Environment and Business students and ensure that the best interest of these students are taken into consideration. Collaborating with other faculties to best represent students... If there is one thing that I have taken away from my experiences so far at Waterloo it’s that I alone cannot accomplish much change on these councils and committees. I have to work together with the representatives from other programs in order to ensure that all students are looked after in the best way possible. This is something I would like to continue doing at the Senate level. By working closely with councilors from other faculties we would be able to represent the students of Waterloo more effectively then ever before. If elected to this seat that would be my most prominent goal. Ensuring that every student has the opportunity to be informed... I’ve found over my time at Waterloo that there can be a disconnect between the governing bodies and the students. Many students may know what Senate is, but they won’t know what it can do for them. Now this may not be true for big issues like Orientation Week or Saturday classes, but typically there isn’t much interaction. My goal on Senate will be to ensure that every student I represent has the opportunity to be informed and has his or her concerns heard. Bringing three years of experience as a campus leader to Senate... My experience at Waterloo is quite vast. I’ve been involved as a campus leader since my first term through Residence Council. From there I have experience in Feds Referendums, chairing one referendum committee and advising another, in Orientation week as a leader, team captain and now FOC member for Environment, as a student ambassador for the last year and in my programs student society, WEBS. I’ve also worked for the Faculty of Environment for two co-op terms handling integrated marketing and recruitment. All of these experiences have fueled my passion for Waterloo and its students. I’ve sought to improve this campus throughout my time here and would love the opportunity to continue that as the Faculty of Environment Undergraduate Senate representative. * * * Supported by the Faculty of Environment... "Steve Krysak is a student well known for his active participation, volunteering, hard work, and leadership within the faculty of environment. I can confidently say that there is no one better suited for this position." "If I'm ever wondering what is going on with my faculty, and even on my campus, I've never bothered to ask anyone but Steve Krysak. Not only has he had two co-op jobs with the Faculty of Environment, represents our student body as a Student Ambassador to high school students, been a frosh leader, and volunteered in countless on-campus groups including Sound FM, but Steve is genuinely interested and passionate about the students' voice at the University of Waterloo. When I know Steve is speaking on my and my peers' behalf, I feel confident that my interests are being represented. If Steve were to represent the Faculty of Environment on Senate, I would be confident that my Faculty is being represented in the best way possible." * * * Visit stevekrysak.wordpress.com for more information and links. *
